The BrainLift represents a systematic effort to integrate in-depth research and critical thinking for transforming fitness from mere data tracking to immersive, gamified experiences. Drawing on cross-disciplinary insights—from physiology, neuroscience, psychology, and game design—it explores the future of both sports in general and running, especially as embodied in the Stride project. The learning journey maps the roles of mindsets, physical development, game mechanics, social engagement, and emerging tech. Through analyzing existing fitness apps, consulting expert opinions, and synthesizing evidence, The BrainLift develops actionable frameworks, unique perspectives, and practical insights for habit formation, athlete development, and building healthier, more effective individuals and communities through sports and thoughtful digital design.
Cruce Saunders is a student at Alpha School, Austin campus, graduating in 2027. Passionate about running and fitness, Cruce turned personal challenges into motivation to help others through technology. As the creator of Stride, a gamified running app, Cruce is dedicated to making exercise more engaging and accessible. With interests in history and entrepreneurship, Cruce aims to continue innovating in the fitness tech space.
After launching Stride and building a user base, I plan to explore gamifying other aspects of fitness, such as resistance training. Academically, I may consider attending Stanford, but my primary focus is on entrepreneurship and building businesses.
Cruce identified the need for a more engaging running experience based on personal transformation through exercise. He researched existing apps, analyzed competitors, and defined the unique value proposition for Stride, focusing on non-intrusive gamification and community features.
To make running more enjoyable and accessible by gamifying the experience, fostering community, and encouraging consistent exercise habits.
Young adults and teens aged 16 to 28 who are interested in running, fitness, and interactive mobile experiences.
Stride is a gamified running app that uses haptic feedback and location-based features to make running more engaging. Users can catch and collect virtual pets, compete with friends, join run clubs, and set accountability goals, all while enjoying a non-intrusive, interactive experience. This project represents months of dedicated research, development, and implementation, resulting in a solution that addresses real-world challenges and creates meaningful impact.
